Kenya Network Information Centre (KENIC)

The Kenya Network Information Centre (KENIC) is an organization registered under the Kenyan laws as a company limited by guarantee (a not-for-profit entity) to manage the administration, policy-setting and technical operations of the Kenyan country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD). KENIC was established to promote, manage and operate the delegated .ke ccTLD in the interest of the Kenyan Internet community and the global Internet community as a broad-based organization with representation from stakeholders in the local Internet industry. KENIC’s membership is drawn from the Government, Private Sector, civil society and Academia. KENIC was modeled around self sustainability and therefore mandated to utilize any surplus revenues generated from the dot Ke domain name space to further the cause of ICT development in Kenya, particularly in rural and disadvantaged areas. As such, it’s expected that KENIC will make a huge contribution towards ICT development over the coming years and demonstrate that homegrown and public-private initiatives do and can actually work.
